Homicide Investigation

On February 12, 2017 at approximately 3:48pm Sheriff's Deputies responded to Spence Road and Old Stage Road on a report of shots fired. When they arrived they located one victim, Luis Enrique Hinojosa (18 years old) with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the Natividad Medical Center where he later died. The Sheriff's Office is looking for the public's help in identifying a person found in the the Arroyo Seco River. John Doe was found in river near the Arroyo Seco Day Camp on December 13,2016. Body found in Carmel Identified

The body discovered on August 26, 2016 at 3645 Rio Road in Carmel has been identified by DNA as Remie Casillas of Santa Cruz. The cause of death is still under investigation. Investigations lead to two arrests for Child Pornography

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office culminated two investigations into Child Predators this week. The first investigation was into Matt Grenzebach (pictured on the left), 36 years old from North Monterey County. Grenzebach came to the attention of the Sheriff’s Office during a domestic incident at his residence in the City of Castroville. Church funds stolen

On June 7, Sheriff’s Deputies received a report that an unknown suspect had entered into an office at the Cypress Church sometime between 6/5/16 at 1100 hrs, and 6/6/16 at 0900 hrs, opened a safe, and stole a bag containing an undisclosed amount of checks and a large amount of cash.
