The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office culminated two investigations into Child Predators this week. The first investigation was into Matt Grenzebach (pictured on the left), 36 years old from North Monterey County. Grenzebach came to the attention of the Sheriff’s Office during a domestic incident at his residence in the City of Castroville. During that investigation deputies learned that Grenzebach was possibly in possession of child pornography. Grenzebach was employed by the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District as a Behavior Technician at Los Arboles Middle School in the Special Education Department. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office immediately contacted the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District to alert them of our investigation. The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District immediately placed Grenzebach on administrative leave, assuring he had no further access to students, pending the outcome of the Sheriff’s Office investigation.
The Investigations Division assumed this investigation and served search warrants on items that had been recovered during the initial call for service at Grenzebach’s home. These initial search warrants revealed that Grenzebach had been in possession of numerous videos and images of confirmed Child Pornography. On August 2nd 2016, the Investigations Division served an additional search warrant at Grenzebach’s current residence on Echo valley Road in Salinas. Grenzebach was taken into custody without incident at his residence. Investigators located thousands of child pornography images and videos at Grenzebach’s residence. Additionally Grenzebach was found in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Grenzebach was lodged into the Monterey County Jail and the case has been referred to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. It should be noted that due to the large number of child pornography images and videos located in this case, it may be referred to the United States Attorney’s Office for a Federal Prosecution.
Grenzebach declined to give Investigators a statement at the time of his arrest. However, nothing in this investigation up to this point has revealed that Grenzebach victimized any students from Los Arboles Middle School. This investigation is ongoing at this time. On August 4th, 2016, 18-year-old Alejandro Ramos (pictured on the right) was arrested in Prunedale during a sting operation involving Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Detectives. An investigation began in July 2016, when a parent reported learning Ramos had been inappropriately text messaging his 9-year-old child. In the course of the investigation it was determined Ramos had been contacting the child since 2014 via various instant messaging apps.
In 2014, Ramos had been a volunteer at the Castroville Community Center Summer Day Camp program where he met the child and he tried to maintain contact with the child. In 2016, Ramos began to pressure the child to meet with him alone. Sheriff’s Office detectives posed as the child messaging with Ramos. Ramos believed he was meeting with the child alone at a residence when detectives arrested him on Thursday. Ramos was booked into the Monterey County jail Thursday afternoon and is being held on $1,400,000.00 bail on child molestation charges.
Any persons with information about Alejandro Ramos are asked to contact Detective Shaheen Jorgensen at the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office at (831)755-3914, or call the Tip Line at (888) 833-4847, or visit the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office website at www.montereysheriff.org
