On February 11, 2017 at approximately 2:15 pm the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team was called out to assist in the search of a male who had reportedly had been struck by a vehicle and thrown off the Elm Street bridge and into the Salinas River.  The Monterey Fire USAR team as well as the Sheriff’s Public Safety Dive team also responded to assist. A shore search was conducted, but divers could not enter the water due to conditions.

On February 12 the Sheriff’s Dive team and Search and rescue returned and continued the search. The Search and Rescue team searched the river using Kayaks as the dive team checked flooded areas from Elm St to Soledad Bridge. On February 13 the Dive team returned with the assistance of a CHP helicopter to continue the search. On February 14 the Dive team made arrangements to slow the water flow from the Nacimiento Dam  so they would be able to enter the water and search. They did not locate the male.

On February 15 the dive team searched the river bank from Elm Street Bridge to Metz Road and the Search and Rescue team again made a search using Kayaks along with a cadaver dog team.

Unfortunately the missing male has not been located.
