SALINAS, Calif. (March 6, 2015) – On March 5, 2015, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a Vehicle Code violation. The suspect slowed on Espinosa Road at Highway 183, Castroville, before making an illegal U-turn and fleeing the opposite direction at a high rate of speed. The suspect led deputies on a pursuit into the City of Castroville where he crashed into a guard rail. He fled from deputies on foot. While fleeing, the suspect threatened to kill a pedestrian who asked him to surrender to law enforcement officers. The suspect was later located in a nearby backyard.

A female adult was contacted in the front passenger’s seat of the suspect’s vehicle. The female stated she repeatedly pled with the suspect to stop the car and let her out because she was afraid for her life. The female was released at the scene after refusing medical care.

The suspect was placed under arrest for evading peace officers, resisting arrest, kidnapping, criminal threats, and for multiple arrest warrants out of Santa Cruz County.
