On February 07, 2016, at approximately 9:15 p.m., a vehicle wanted for vehicle code violations, fled at a high rate of speed southbound on Hwy. 101 from the City of Salinas. It was later discovered that the vehicle was an unreported stolen vehicle from the City of Greenfield. Deputies conducted an area check in southern Monterey County for the vehicle. A short time later, Dep. S. Villanueva located the vehicle traveling on Los Coches Road. The vehicle was heading towards Greenfield.

Deputy S. Villanueva followed the vehicle. Dep. D. Munoz was able to position a Stop Stick/spike strip in front of the stolen vehicle, on Thorne Road near Peach Road, in an attempt to prevent the vehicle from engaging in another high speed pursuit and endangering the public. The suspect vehicle drove over the spike strip, and the left front tire on the stolen vehicle became flat. The suspect vehicle swerved to the right, and came to a stop. Orlando Gonzales (19 years old) and Eduardo Villarreal (25 years old) were taken into custody for possession of stolen property, violation of probation and vehicle code violations. They were transported to the Monterey County Jail. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and responded to the scene. The flat tire was changed, and the vehicle was driven from the scene by the owner.
