Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Manuel Santa Ruiz after he led law enforcement on a high speed chase trying to evade arrest. The incident took place in the area of Highway 145 and Metz road in rural Monterey County. The chase lasted about 5 miles and ended after Ruiz crashed his car. Ruiz was driving on a suspended driver’s license and had felony warrants. Also in the car during the chase was Ermelinda Carbajal. She was arrested on drug related charges and is a known Norteno Gang member.

Deputies did a search of the car and found drugs, ammunition and a loaded firearm. They also conducted a probation search at the home where both Ruiz and Carbajal live and found more drugs and 15-06793evidenceammunition. During the search, two other people on probation were at the home and were arrested on drug related charges.

Ruiz was taken to jail and now faces charges of felony evading, firearms, and drug sales.
