On June 29-17, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (S.A.F.E.) Team conducted numerous parole compliance searches on sex offenders in Salinas and the North Monterey County areas of the County. Deputies went to John Anthony Ortiz’ residence, in the 1200 block of De La Torre Street, in the City of Salinas. Ortiz is currently on parole for sex offenses against children. Upon arrival at his residence, Ortiz would not open the door. Deputies made entry into the residence through an unlocked window. Upon entering the residence a small child was observed to be in Ortiz’ bed violating the terms of his parole.
A further search of Ortiz’ residence revealed that Ortiz was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Ortiz was arrested and lodged into the Monterey County Jail for narcotics possession and parole violation. It is not believed at this time, based upon information obtained at the scene that Ortiz had committed any crimes against the child that was located in his bed. The mother of the child was counseled about making better decisions on who she brings her child around. The goal of the S.A.F.E. Team is to both monitor and educated offenders and the public, while keeping our communities safe by ensuring that sex offenders are in compliance with the terms of their probation or parole and registration requirements.
