On April 26, 2016, the Sheriff’s Office, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, Monterey County Health Department and Monterey County Building’s Department served a warrant on an isolated property in “Copperhead Canyon”, off Bryson Hesperia Road, in rural southern Monterey County, CA.

Officers were looking for the illegal cultivation of marijuana, illegal grading, illegal structures and violations of environmental health regulations in reference to the cultivation. The resulting search located over 2,500 immature marijuana plants growing in newly constructed “greenhouses” on the property. No paperwork supporting the activities at this marijuana cultivation was present at the sight. Marijuana bud, methamphetamine, heroin and drug use paraphernalia was located at different locations at, or near, the cultivation sight.

Twenty-four firearms were located on the property. These firearms included loaded handguns, rifles, shotguns and one assault rifle. Thousands of rounds of ammunition were located at the cultivation site. Two of the cultivation laborers were convicted felons and were not allowed to possess firearms. One of the laborers was on felony probation for a prior marijuana cultivation conviction. A subject was found to have loaded handguns, under the influence of heroin and methamphetamine and in possession of both dangerous drugs. The listed subjects were transported to Monterey County Jail. Additional county code violations are forthcoming for the remaining civil violations.
